Abdukodir Khusanov Signs Five-Year Deal with Manchester City
Abdukodir Khusanov has tied his future to Manchester City, signing a new five-year deal that underlines both the club’s faith in him and his own belief that he is only just getting started.
The 22-year-old defender, who made history in January 2025 as the first Uzbek player to join a Premier League club, has quickly moved from intriguing signing to trusted performer. Last season he featured 37 times under Pep Guardiola, a workload that would test any young defender, never mind one adapting to a new country, culture and league.

“This is a great day for me and my family,” he said after committing his long-term future to the Etihad. “I am really happy to extend my stay at City. I've enjoyed every minute since I arrived in Manchester.
“I feel I am growing and learning a lot as a player. I have a new challenge now, which is to impress Enzo Maresca and his staff. I also want to ensure I am in his team regularly. I am determined to do that.”
The timing of the deal is no accident. City are moving into the Enzo Maresca era, and securing a core of younger players who can carry the side through the next cycle is central to that plan. Khusanov, with his blend of physical power and composure on the ball, fits that blueprint cleanly.
His first full season in England already carries weight. Khusanov helped City to a domestic cup double, featuring in both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup finals at Wembley. Those are the kind of occasions that expose weaknesses and reveal temperament. City kept him on the pitch.

“We are seeing him grow into a brilliant young man and an outstanding defender, but we know this is only the beginning,” Viana said. “His physical and technical abilities are top. He has all the assets needed to be a world-class centre-back.
“At just 22 years old, his best years are all in front of him and his potential to get even better is clear for all to see.”
