Alex Scott Pushes for Chelsea Move After £64m Bid Rejected
Alex Scott wants Chelsea. That much is clear.
Chelsea have already seen a £64million offer knocked back for the Bournemouth midfielder, but the 22-year-old is understood to be keen on making the move to Stamford Bridge as the London club step up their pursuit.
Bournemouth, though, are standing firm. The south-coast club insist Scott is not for sale and are trying to tie him to a new contract after a breakout season under Andoni Iraola, who has since left to take over at Liverpool.
Scott has no intention of signing fresh terms. He enjoyed an outstanding campaign as Bournemouth secured Europa League football, enhancing his reputation as one of the most polished young midfielders in the Premier League. The club first put a new deal on the table in March, confident at the time that the former Bristol City man could be persuaded to commit his long-term future.
That confidence has faded. Talks have slowed, Chelsea have accelerated, and Scott is now ready for the next step. The rejected £64m bid is unlikely to be the end of it.
Chelsea’s interest comes with competition lurking in the background. Arsenal and Manchester City have both been credited with an eye on Scott, though neither has yet made a formal move for the England international. For now, Chelsea are the ones at the table, trying to move quickly before the chase becomes crowded.
Scott’s stock has risen sharply over the past 12 months. He missed out on a place in England’s World Cup squad, but his inclusion in senior training before the tournament underlined how highly he is rated at international level. Inside the England set-up, he is seen as one of the players capable of injecting freshness and energy into Thomas Tuchel’s squad after their painful semi-final exit to Argentina.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are reshaping their own midfield. Enzo Fernandez has made clear his desire to leave, even as the club slap a £120m valuation on the 25-year-old. Head coach Alonso has said he wants to keep the former Benfica man, but with Real Madrid ruling out a move, it remains uncertain whether any club will match Chelsea’s asking price.
All of that leaves a gap in the middle of the pitch and a clear opportunity for Scott. Chelsea see him as a key part of their next midfield evolution; Bournemouth see him as central to their European push and want him locked down on new terms.
