Guardiola had already hinted that his tank was empty. Before leaving City he spoke of lacking the “energy” to jump straight into another job, echoing the language used by his long-time rival Jürgen Klopp when he walked away from Liverpool.

Klopp recharged, Germany reset
While Italy waits for Pirlo to sign, another European giant has already nailed down its future. Klopp, now 59, was unveiled on Friday morning in Frankfurt as the new head coach of Germany, his first job since leaving Liverpool two years ago. This time, he says, he feels “recharged”.
He has committed to a four-year contract that will take him through Euro 2028 and the 2030 World Cup. It is a long-term bet on a coach whose football has always been about emotion, identity and intensity.
“The national team brings us Germans together like almost nothing else can. That's what makes this task so special for me,” Klopp said at his presentation, capturing the sense of national weight that comes with the role.
Germany and Italy now stand at similar crossroads, but with very different choices. Germany have gone for Klopp, the proven club builder with a clear, high-energy blueprint. Italy are turning to Pirlo, the artist asked to become an architect.
