Arsenal Told to Meet £137m Price Tag for Vinicius Junior Amid Real Madrid Contract Talks
Arsenal have been informed that signing Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior would require a British-record transfer fee of £137 million. Rumors sparked excitement among Arsenal fans over the weekend as reports suggested the club is considering bringing Vinicius to the Emirates Stadium as their new left-winger.
Although no formal discussions have taken place between clubs, and no approval has come from Vinicius’s camp yet, insiders say the potential deal has backing at every level within Arsenal's hierarchy.
Contract Situation Could Open Door for Arsenal
Vinicius is entering the final year of his contract with Real Madrid, who still hope to extend his stay. The player himself seems inclined to agree to new terms. Yet, if talks break down, Arsenal stand in a strong position to lure the Brazilian away from the Bernabeu.
The £137 million figure comes from a report by SPORT, cited via The Mirror. It states that Real Madrid demand this exceptional sum to even entertain a sale. This amount would smash the Premier League’s record, eclipsing Liverpool's £125 million outlay for Alexander Isak last summer.
Real Madrid might push the price higher, and according to reports, manager Jose Mourinho is opposed to selling Vinicius to Arsenal. The Spanish club has made it clear Arsenal can afford the fee but must first generate funds by offloading players.
Upcoming Contract Talks and Player Performance
Discussions between Real Madrid and Vinicius are expected toward the end of July. If they fail to reach an agreement, Madrid may consider extending his contract further into the season.
Last season, the 26-year-old contributed 22 goals and 14 assists across 53 appearances for Los Blancos. At the 2026 World Cup, he added four goals and one assist in five games representing Brazil.
Arsenal’s Need to Balance the Books
So far this summer, Arsenal have signed Piero Hincapie and Christos Tzolis for a combined £69 million but recouped only about £32 million from sales including Jakub Kiwior, Karl Hein, and Leandro Trossard.
Given the club’s history of limited income from player sales—less than £50 million in three of the last five windows—substantial departures will be necessary to avoid breaching Premier League financial rules if they want to complete a deal for Vinicius.
If technical director Andrea Berta decides on a tough approach, several players could be moved on: Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard, Viktor Gyokeres, Gabriel Martinelli, Reiss Nelson, Fabio Vieira, Ben White, Ethan Nwaneri, Martin Odegaard, and Kai Havertz.
Odegaard and Havertz leaving would shake up the dressing room since both are key figures, but their contracts run only two more years, leaving tough calls for manager Mikel Arteta and Berta.
