Arsenal Hit by Injuries Before Crucial Chelsea Clash

As Arsenal prepares for the upcoming London derby against Chelsea, manager Mikel Arteta is dealing with a tricky situation after two key players missed training. Bruno Guimaraes and Cristhian Mosquera were both absent from Thursday's session at London Colney, casting doubt on their availability.

Guimaraes' Ongoing Groin Issue

Since joining Arsenal from Newcastle United in a £75 million transfer, Guimaraes has been managing a persistent groin problem. He was sidelined for the Premier League opener against Coventry City but returned briefly as a substitute for 19 minutes in the recent match against Aston Villa.

Arteta has handled Guimaraes with care, limiting his playing time to ensure recovery, especially given the squad's options in midfield. Still, missing such an influential player ahead of a critical game like the derby against Xabi Alonso's Chelsea would disrupt Arsenal's tactical plans.

Concerns Over Mosquera's Fitness

The situation with defender Mosquera seems more worrying. He had to leave the field late in the Aston Villa game, replaced by Ezri Konsa in the 79th minute. Initially, Arteta described this substitution as a precaution rather than due to serious injury.

"He's fine, but he felt like something might happen, so that's why we brought in Ezri," Arteta explained after the match.

If Mosquera can't play on Sunday, Konsa, who recently joined Arsenal from Aston Villa for £51 million, could make his first home appearance at the Emirates Stadium, filling the defensive gap.

Defensive Depth Tested

Additional defensive worries linger as Jurrien Timber remains doubtful for the weekend. With William Saliba out for a long stretch after a World Cup-related injury, Arsenal's backline depth is under pressure early in the season.

Early Season Form: Arsenal vs Chelsea

Both teams have started strong this season, each winning their first two Premier League matches. Arsenal opened with a 3-0 win over Coventry City and then narrowly defeated Aston Villa 1-0. Chelsea, on the other hand, secured thrilling victories by beating Fulham 3-2 and edging Brighton 4-3.
