Arsenal's Search for a Left Winger After Vinicius Junior's Commitment

The Brazilian forward has committed his future to Real Madrid, signing a new six-year deal that shuts the door on what would have been one of the most audacious transfers of the summer. Arsenal had pushed hard, lodging a serious bid and edging close to agreeing personal terms with the 26-year-old, but the pull of the Bernabeu proved decisive.

So the dream fades, and the strategy shifts.

Arsenal reset their sights

Arsenal still want a top-tier left winger. That part hasn’t changed. According to the Independent, three names now dominate their shortlist as Mikel Arteta looks for another attacking weapon to push his side over the line in the title race.

At the top of that list sits Julian Alvarez. Arteta is a long-standing admirer of the Atletico Madrid forward, whose relentless movement and work-rate fit neatly with the manager’s demands. The problem? Atletico do not want to sell. Barcelona are also in the frame, which only complicates any potential deal, but the clearest obstacle remains the Spanish club’s stance: Alvarez is not on the market.

That won’t stop Arsenal asking the question, yet they know they may have to look elsewhere.

Barcola in demand

Bradley Barcola is another serious option. The Paris Saint-Germain forward, under contract until 2028, has become one of the most coveted young wide players in Europe. He is refusing to sign a new deal at Parc des Princes, a decision that has alerted several elite clubs.

Liverpool are ready to test PSG’s resolve with a €115m bid. PSG value Barcola at around €150m, a price that underlines how highly they rate him and how expensive it will be for anyone, Arsenal included, to tempt him away.

If Arsenal decide Barcola is the one, they will be stepping into a bidding war with a heavyweight rival and a club in no rush to cash in.

Ndiaye emerges as a Premier League option

The third name on Arsenal’s list is a little different. Iliman Ndiaye has already proved himself in English football and offers a more direct Premier League route.

The Everton forward scored six goals and added three assists last season, then carried that form onto the international stage by finding the net for Senegal in their World Cup group game against Iraq. At 26, he is entering his prime and has the blend of creativity and goal threat that would appeal to a coach obsessed with versatility in the final third.

But this is no bargain opportunity. Ndiaye is tied to Everton until 2029, a contract that puts the Merseyside club in a position of strength. They can demand a premium fee, and given their own ambitions and need to retain key assets, they are unlikely to fold easily.

A crucial call for Arsenal’s next step

Vinicius Junior will stay in Madrid, terrorising defences in white. Arsenal must now decide which path to follow: an almost immovable target in Alvarez, a hugely expensive prodigy in Barcola, or a Premier League-proven Ndiaye who will still command a hefty fee.

The need is clear. The options are on the table. How bold will Arsenal be in finding the left winger to turn a strong squad into a title-winning one?
