Arsenal’s Interest in Jeremy Doku and Antoine Semenyo Questioned Amid Man City FFP Threat

If Manchester City were to face relegation due to Financial Fair Play (FFP) penalties, speculation has arisen about whether Arsenal would try to sign winger talents like Belgian Jeremy Doku or Ghanaian Antoine Semenyo from the Etihad squad. Gilles Grimandi, a former Gunners player, shared with GOAL his doubts about such moves actually happening.

Summer Transfer Window and Arsenal's Search for Wingers

During the recent transfer window, Arsenal sought a left-wing attacker, signing Greek forward Christos Tzolis while letting Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli leave. The club was also linked to higher-profile names, including Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior and Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola. However, both players remained out of reach—Vinicius renewed his contract at Madrid, and Liverpool secured Barcola for £123 million ($165m).

Arsenal appeared cautious about overspending on a single winger, relying instead on players like Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke to cover creative roles on the flanks. Still, the club remains open to adding talent if opportunities arise, especially watching developments surrounding City’s potential points deduction.

Potential Fallout from Manchester City’s FFP Situation

Manchester City currently faces 114 charges related to FFP violations, which could lead to heavy points deductions or even relegation. Should this occur, many players might seek transfers, possibly including Jeremy Doku and Antoine Semenyo, who have both shown promise in the Premier League.

Grimandi’s View on Arsenal Pursuing Doku or Semenyo

“I’m not convinced to be honest,” Grimandi said when asked if Arsenal would pursue these wingers. “Doku has fantastic ability and pace, but Semenyo—I don’t think he would bring anything special. To play the way Arsenal wants, I’m unsure.”He added, “Kvaratskhelia would bring something special to Arsenal. But we also have quality young players here. Maybe it’s a chance for them to show what they can do. I don’t see Arsenal spending big money, but if Doku or Semenyo became available on a free transfer, maybe they would consider it.”

Other Opinions and Arsenal’s Current Focus

Ex-England international Gabriel Agbonlahor described Doku as “perfect” for Arsenal, while Paul Scholes predicted the Belgian would move to the Emirates if City were relegated. Yet, it’s unclear if manager Mikel Arteta shares this view or is ready to compete with other top clubs for such players.

For now, Arsenal is concentrating on current competitions, including a tough Champions League match against Bayern Munich and an upcoming Premier League game hosting Everton.
