Arsenal have moved ahead of their Premier League rivals to land highly rated Liverpool youngster Vincent Joseph, striking an agreement with the 16-year-old striker as they also weigh up a blockbuster move for a senior No 9.

Joseph, a prolific forward who can also operate as a No 10, has been catching the eye in Liverpool’s academy for years, with Anfield insiders describing him as “scoring freely” at youth level.
He stepped up to Liverpool’s U18s last season and made an instant impact, hitting three goals in his first two appearances. On the international stage, he has been just as ruthless: eight goals in nine games for England U16s. He is also eligible to represent Germany, underlining the tug of war that could emerge over his future.
Manchester United were linked with a surprise swoop back in March, but it is Arsenal who have won the race. According to The Athletic, Joseph allowed his schoolboy contract at Liverpool to run down and chose not to sign a scholarship deal with the club, opening the door for the Gunners to pounce.
Mikel Arteta’s side have “reached an agreement” with the teenager, with Arsenal and Liverpool now locked in talks over a fee. If the clubs cannot settle on a figure, the case will go to a tribunal.
In that scenario, the Professional Football Compensation Committee (PFCC) would step in and set the compensation. They would examine Joseph’s age, his playing record, how long he spent at Liverpool, the stature of both clubs and the terms each side put on the table.
Inside Arsenal, there is a sense they may have secured a future gem. Joseph has already drawn comparisons to Jamal Musiala, not just for his productivity, but for his ability to float between the lines and influence the game from deeper positions.
Elite No 9 hunt: Alvarez and Osimhen on the board
While Arsenal build for the future with Joseph, the recruitment team is also pushing hard for a ready-made centre-forward to compete at the very top level.
The club remain in contact over Julian Alvarez, with the Argentina international viewed as an ideal fit for Arteta’s fluid front line. However, Alvarez is understood to favour a move to Barcelona, leaving Arsenal to keep their options open.
The Telegraph report that Arsenal and Galatasaray discussed Victor Osimhen during conversations about Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri, a sign of how seriously the north London club are exploring their striker options.
Sources indicate Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have all held internal talks over whether to move for Osimhen, amid claims his price tag has dropped well below the £100m mark.
United have since cooled their interest in the Nigeria forward. That shift hands Arsenal and Spurs a clearer run, but any deal would still be huge. Osimhen is expected to command a significant fee, even with Galatasaray now more open to negotiating his departure at a reduced level, and his wage demands for a Premier League move are high.
As things stand, Arsenal are also described as the club most keen on a Barcelona player, underlining a recruitment drive that stretches from one of Europe’s brightest 16-year-olds to some of the game’s most established forwards.
A future Musiala-type talent coming in at one end of the age spectrum, a potential marquee No 9 at the other. If Arsenal get both calls right, this summer could reshape their attack for years.
