Arsenal Signs Liverpool Prospect Vincent Joseph as Academy Rebuild Progresses
Arsenal are on the verge of prising highly rated teenager Vincent Joseph away from Liverpool, in another aggressive move to overhaul their academy talent pool.
An agreement is already in place between Arsenal and the England youth international, according to The Athletic, after Joseph chose not to sign scholarship terms at Anfield this summer when his schoolboy registration expired. The 16-year-old striker is now poised to switch red shirts.
The clubs are locked in talks over a compensation fee. Joseph is under 24 and has not signed a professional deal with Liverpool, so if Arsenal and Liverpool fail to settle on a figure, a tribunal will step in and set the amount.
Joseph’s numbers at youth level explain why Arsenal have pushed so hard. He has hit eight goals in nine games for England’s under-16s and broke into Liverpool’s under-18 Premier League side last season, scoring three times in just two appearances. A small sample, but a loud statement.
This is not a one-off raid. Arsenal’s recruitment team has been systematically targeting the most coveted teenagers in Britain and beyond, and Joseph’s expected arrival follows another eye-catching move: beating Liverpool to the signature of goalkeeper Phoenix Blayney.
Blayney, a teenage prospect, is expected to sign a pre-contract when he links up with Arsenal this summer, before committing to professional terms once he turns 17 in November 2027. His father, Alan Blayney, made it clear earlier in the summer that the decision is made.
“Everything has been agreed with Arsenal, he just needs to sign the contract,” he told the Belfast Telegraph. “When he's 17, he will sign a professional contract. It's done and dusted and a pre-contract will be signed when the time is right.”
Arsenal are also closing in on Cardiff City youngster Axel Donczew, another marker of intent. Donczew already holds a club record in Wales: he became the youngest player ever to represent Cardiff’s first team when he debuted in the EFL Trophy against Newport County on October 25, aged just 15 years and 234 days.
One by one, the next generation is being assembled in north London. The question now is how many of them will turn potential into Premier League minutes.
