Arteta Addresses Contract Speculation Ahead of Manchester City Clash

Mikel Arteta walked into his pre-match press conference with Manchester City on the horizon and contract questions waiting for him. He batted them away with ease.

Although co-chairman Josh Kroenke made it clear back in May that tying the manager down to a new deal was a “top priority”, Arteta refused to play along with any sense of urgency before the season opener in Cardiff.

There was no hint of nerves, no suggestion of a stand-off. Just a firm message to the fanbase.

"They [the fans] don't have to worry about any of that, because I want to be here. I am extremely happy," he said. "I feel very grateful to work with the people that I work with and when we have the possibility, we will resolve that. And that's it."

The focus, he stressed, lies elsewhere. With the transfer window still open and squads across the league in flux, Arteta made it clear that the club’s energy is being spent on recruitment and refinement, not signatures on his own paperwork.

"There is always another priority, I think!" he said, leaning into the reality of a restless market. "And that's the way we have been treating it, I think because everybody feels comfortable that the time on the contract is not going to be an issue."

No drama. No brinkmanship. Just a manager who believes his future and the club’s are already moving in the same direction.

Arteta underlined that alignment with the hierarchy, pointing to a shared vision rather than any looming negotiation battle.

"I think because my will, certainly, is to be here and I am very happy here. My feeling from the club is the same one. That is why everyone is doing things in a really organic way."

So the season starts in Cardiff with Manchester City in the opposite dugout, the champions setting the standard as always. Arteta’s contract can wait. His message is simple: the real work, for now, is on the pitch.
