Arteta Sends Clear Signal as Barcelona Eyes Atlético's Julián Álvarez

The future of Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez, aged 26, is still unclear. The Argentine star wants to leave, and several clubs are interested in signing him this summer.

Barcelona's Strong Interest

Barcelona are particularly eager to bring Álvarez on board to boost their attack. Yet, Atlético Madrid have no plans to let him join the Catalan side, preferring that he moves abroad instead.

Arsenal Steps Back in Pursuit

Arsenal was among the contenders for Álvarez, reportedly proposing to include Viktor Gyökeres in negotiations to reduce the transfer cost. But manager Mikel Arteta's recent comments suggest a change in direction.

"I won’t talk about a player who is not from our team. I’m very happy with the team I have. Obviously we want to improve it, and the club is working on that," Arteta said. He confirmed Gyökeres will remain part of Arsenal's squad.

The Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo interprets this as a sign that Arsenal has stepped back from the race to acquire Álvarez.

Current Status and Barcelona's Approach

Álvarez is currently on holiday, awaiting news about his next move. While Barcelona still view him as a priority, they are content with their current attacking options, including Anthony Gordon, Adeyemi, and Bisseck. The club does not plan to rush into any deal.
