Barcelona's New Squad Numbers for La Liga Season
Barcelona’s new season starts on Sunday against Elche, and the names on the backs of the shirts are now taking shape.
La Liga’s official website has confirmed the squad numbers for Barça’s latest signings, offering the clearest sign yet that the club have navigated the registration maze that has haunted recent summers.
- Rodri takes over the No. 16 shirt
- Anthony Gordon will wear 17
- Karim Adeyemi has been handed 14
- Andreas Christensen, fresh from signing a new contract, moves to No. 15
One big name is still missing from the list. João Cancelo does not yet appear on La Liga’s site, though the expectation around the club is that he will keep the No. 2 he wore last season once everything is finalised. New arrival Jesse Bisiwu, meanwhile, has been given a B-team squad number, underlining that his pathway will begin away from the senior list.
The reshuffle has triggered movement among the existing core as well. Fermín López, who had worn 16, has stepped into a marquee number: he will now wear No. 7, previously Ferran Torres’ shirt. The change carries some emotion for the midfielder.
“It makes me a bit sad to give up the number 16 because it had a special place in my heart after these seasons with the first team. But I'm sure it will be in good hands,” he said earlier, before the switch became official.
Gordon’s arrival has had consequences for another youngster. The former Newcastle winger has taken the No. 17 from Marc Casadó. The midfielder has not yet left the club, but is widely viewed as being on his way out, and currently has no number registered for the new campaign.
Inside Barcelona, appearing on La Liga’s website has long been treated as the unofficial green light that registrations are in order. Local reports say the club have successfully registered their new signings, a far cry from the tense final hours of previous windows when Financial Fair Play and a lack of fresh income forced last-minute juggling.
This time, the numbers are in early, the paperwork appears clean, and Barcelona head into their opener not fighting calculators, but focusing on Elche and the statement they want to make on day one.
