Add the transfer fee and the usual commissions, and the overall package surges towards that €210 million mark – and could even climb higher depending on the final structure. For a club still carefully navigating its finances, it is a statement of intent as much as it is a financial stretch.
Player waiting, clubs stalling
The timing adds another layer of tension. Rodri has already wrapped up his post-World Cup holiday and was recently spotted boarding a flight back to England, a sign that the move is not yet over the line. The original idea had been very different: a direct arrival in Barcelona, presentation, photos, and a quick integration into pre-season.
Instead, the midfielder finds himself in limbo. He has requested to skip training as negotiations accelerate, leaving a question mark over whether he will actually report back for pre-season with Manchester City.
