Barcelona Targets Rodri with €70m Limit
FC Barcelona have tightened their grip on the Rodri operation, pushing hard to close a deal with Manchester City without smashing through the financial limits they set from the start.
The Catalan club, in constant contact with the midfielder’s camp, have gone back to City with a fresh set of proposals. The message from Barcelona is blunt: the total package will not go beyond €70 million, according to SPORT.
A deal built to stay under €70m

Crucially, that valuation is close to the number City were prepared to accept in previous talks with Real Madrid, and below the €80m they initially floated to Barcelona. The starting distance between the clubs has shrunk. Now it is about fine-tuning.
Negotiations have run for days, with Barça and City in almost permanent contact. Each round of talks has chipped away at the gap, and there is growing confidence at the Camp Nou that the agreement is within reach. No one is calling it done yet, but the feeling is that the deal is now a question of hours or, at most, a couple of days.

The Catalans have repeated the same line throughout: they will not overpay, especially with Rodri’s contract expiring at the end of the season.
From Barcelona’s perspective, a package capped at €70m, bonuses included, is the right valuation for a player in that contractual situation.
The structure most likely to unlock the agreement is now clear: €65m guaranteed plus €5m in relatively straightforward bonuses linked to collective trophies. League titles, Champions League runs, the kind of objectives a club like Barça expects to chase every year.
With the numbers edging closer and the framework already drawn, Barcelona believe the decisive breakthrough can land at any moment. The question now is not whether Rodri fits their project – that has been answered for months – but whether this week ends with him still a City player or walking into the Camp Nou as the new face of their midfield.
