Benjamin Sesko's Goal Marks Return from Injury

Benjamin Sesko marked his return from injury with a goal – and walked off the pitch looking like it barely mattered.

His strike should have been the story. Back in the side after a disrupted pre-season, the 23-year-old did exactly what he is paid to do: find the net, tilt the game his team’s way, drag them towards three points. Instead, the final whistle arrived with a gut punch, a last-minute equaliser ripping away the win and leaving Sesko and his teammates staring at the turf.

“We're very disappointed of course because we were very close [to winning] and yet so far,” he told MUTV, the frustration still raw. “To concede a goal like that in the last minute, it's painful for everyone because everyone was giving everything to try and win the game. Every single person here wants that. In the moments like this where a last shot decides it, it's very painful.”

The goal, though, matters. For Sesko, it is a clear step forward after fitness problems derailed most of his pre-season work. Strikers live on rhythm and repetition; he has had neither. What he does have now is evidence that the instincts are still sharp, the timing still there, the finish still ruthless.

“For me, it's the best feeling when I'm scoring, especially for the club like that,” he said. “When I can provide the goals and the points for the team – it's my job at the end of the day.”

That line hangs there. His job. He did it. The result did not.

Sesko has been around long enough to know that dwelling on late blows can drain a dressing room. So he leaned into the positives, even as the disappointment lingered.

“It's nice to be back with the team to experience all the games again. Of course I wish today that we had won, but we can't change that,” he admitted.

The mood could easily have turned sour after such a brutal finale. Instead, Sesko pushed the conversation towards what comes next.

“It's really important to take everything as positive even when it's not the best option from today,” he said. “To see the game in a good light, to try and improve and focus for the next game.”

The goal has reminded everyone what he brings. The question now is whether the team can match his step forward with one of their own when the next late chance falls their way.
