Bilal Nadir Joins Hamburg on Free Transfer from Marseille
Hamburg have moved again in the summer market, landing Moroccan midfielder Bilal Nadir on a free transfer from Olympique Marseille in a deal the club clearly believes will anchor its new-look spine.
The 20-year-old becomes Hamburg’s second signing of the window, following striker Patson Daka into the club. One brings goals, the other control. Together, they signal a bolder, more technical direction.
Long-term bet in midfield
Hamburg announced the move on their official X account, confirming that Nadir arrives on a free and has signed a long-term contract. No half-measures here: this is a player they expect to grow with the club, not simply fill a gap.
Nadir has already passed his medical and joined the squad at their training camp in Austria, where he signed his contract in front of club officials. He will wear the number 4 shirt, a statement number for a midfielder expected to take responsibility in the heart of the pitch.
“I am very happy to become a Hamburg player, and I can't wait to meet the club's fans and play for this city,” Nadir said after signing. Short, direct, and exactly the sort of message supporters want to hear from a new arrival.

From Nice to Marseille – and now Germany
Nadir’s journey has moved quickly. Born in Nice on 28 November 2003, he came through the academy at his hometown club before making the jump to Marseille in the summer of 2021. It was there that his promise started to translate into senior football.
He broke into the first team in 2023 and accumulated 53 official appearances for Marseille, scoring two goals and providing five assists. Those numbers only tell part of the story, but they show a young midfielder trusted at a high level and involved consistently.
European nights have already been part of his education. Nadir featured four times in the Champions League and twice in the Europa League, gaining experience in the kind of high-pressure environments Hamburg hope to return to.
Rising with Morocco
On the international stage, Nadir stands on the brink of a full breakthrough. Morocco called him up to the senior squad in March 2025, though he has yet to make his debut. He has already represented Morocco at under-23 level and previously turned out for several French youth national teams, a reflection of his dual footballing identity and growing reputation.
