Brian Farinas was almost out of the door. Now he’s part of Barcelona’s plans.

The decision has consequences. While Farinas stays, Tommy Marques goes. Marques, who made his first-team debut last season, is the one Barça are now prepared to part with, a clear sign of how strongly Farinas has climbed in the internal hierarchy over these past weeks.

For a player who arrived from Villarreal back in 2018 and quietly built his profile in the academy, the numbers from last season already hinted at a bigger role: five goals and seven assists in 33 appearances for Barça Atletic. Those figures, combined with his leadership and his response under Flick this summer, have turned what looked like a routine sale into a bet on continuity.
