Dominic Calvert-Lewin Set to Sign New Leeds Deal
Leeds United are on the verge of landing one of their most important results of the season – and it has nothing to do with a matchday.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin, their resurgent England striker, is set to sign a new contract at Elland Road, shutting the door on a potential January move and dealing a sharp blow to Manchester United’s winter plans.
The 29-year-old has rebuilt both form and reputation in West Yorkshire. Since arriving on a free transfer from Everton, he has scored 20 goals in 49 appearances for the Whites, rediscovering the penalty-box instincts that once made him a mainstay in the England squad. His current deal runs until 2028, but Leeds are moving to lock him in for even longer, a clear statement about where they see their project heading.
The timing could hardly be worse for Manchester United. With Benjamin Sesko ruled out for an extended spell as he battles a shin injury, Old Trafford’s recruitment team had turned their gaze towards Elland Road. Calvert-Lewin’s Premier League experience, physical presence and proven record made him an obvious candidate to lead the line in January.
United had been linked with a move in the upcoming window, exploring the possibility of prising him away mid-season. That prospect now looks set to vanish before the market even opens.
For Leeds, keeping Calvert-Lewin is about more than numbers on a scoresheet. It protects the spine of a side trying to consolidate and climb, and it sends a message to the rest of the league: Elland Road is no longer a place where key players are easily picked off.
For United, the search for a January striker goes on – with one major name about to come off the board.
