Cardiff City Signs Jack Moylan After Breakout Season

Cardiff City are set to prise Jack Moylan away from Championship rivals Lincoln City, landing one of last season’s standout attacking midfielders from the lower leagues.

The 24-year-old Irishman drove Lincoln’s surge out of League One, not just decorating games but deciding them. He hit 11 goals and supplied six assists as the Imps surged past Cardiff in the title race, a painful twist the Bluebirds have not forgotten.

Now he is about to pull on their shirt.

A season like that does not go unnoticed. Moylan’s form earned him a first call-up to the Republic of Ireland national team, and he walked into the international stage as if it belonged to him. A debut hat-trick in a 5-0 win over Grenada turned a good year into a statement year.

From Bohemians and Shelbourne to Lincoln and now Cardiff, his rise has been sharp rather than smooth, but always forward. This next move brings him under the guidance of a fellow Irishman in the dugout, with Brian Barry-Murphy shaping a new-look Cardiff side in his own image.

Moylan is poised to become the club’s second signing of the summer after the arrival of goalkeeper Nathan Trott in May. One plugs a gap at the back; the other is being brought in to tilt games in the final third. Cardiff want more goals. Moylan has just delivered a season built on them.

There are early signs of a team building momentum. The Bluebirds thrashed Roma 4-1 in their last outing, a result that, friendly or not, sends a jolt of confidence through any dressing room.
