Columbia Secures Late Victory Against Temple

Temple did almost everything but score.

They moved the ball crisply in the opening half, carving out angles and firing from distance and close range alike. Each time, Columbia goalkeeper Aris Taki stood firm. He read shots early, covered his posts, and turned what could have been a comfortable Temple lead into a mounting source of frustration for the Owls.

The Lions were not just hanging on. They carved out chances of their own in the early stages, asking serious questions of the Temple back line. When they did break through, Dylan Kaye answered. The Temple goalkeeper matched Taki save for save, shutting down every look Columbia created and keeping the game on a knife edge.

All that effort, all those half-chances, and the teams walked into the locker rooms locked at 0-0. Temple had the rhythm. Columbia had survived.

The pattern flipped after the break. Columbia began to put a foot on the ball, stringing passes together and slowing the tempo. Temple, so fluid in the first 45, found less space, fewer clean looks, and more defending to do as the Lions grew into the match.

The clock kept draining. The tension climbed.

With only two minutes left in regulation, the breakthrough finally arrived. The ball fell to Jack McDaid on the right, and he did not waste the moment. One clean strike from his right foot, and Columbia had the goal they had been chasing all half.

Temple, after controlling so much of the opening period, had no time to answer. Columbia walked away with a 1-0 victory, McDaid’s late winner and Taki’s first-half resilience turning a tight contest into a statement of the Lions’ resolve.
