Across their last five matches, the Seagulls have scored ten and conceded eight. They’ve also handled Tromsoe over two Conference League qualifiers — a cagey 0-0 followed by a commanding 4-0 victory. Goals are rarely in short supply when Hurzeler’s side take the field.
Lampard’s selection headaches
For Coventry, the problems start before a ball is kicked. The injury list is growing, and the absence of USMNT forward Haji Wright has hit Lampard’s attack hard. Yasin Ayari, Maxim De Cuyper, Malick Junior Yalcouye, Diego Gomez and Pascal Gross should operate across midfield, a blend of energy, balance and experience that underpins Hurzeler’s approach. Up front, Charalampos Kostoulas is in line to lead the line, tasked with converting the chances this Brighton system so often creates.

The contrast in recent form is stark. Coventry’s five-game stretch reads: four defeats, one win, three goals scored, five conceded. Brighton’s: two wins, two draws, one defeat, ten scored, eight conceded. One team is clinging to positives in narrow losses; the other is riding the chaos of high-scoring contests and European nights.
History between these clubs offers Coventry a sliver of encouragement. Across the last five recorded head-to-head meetings, the Sky Blues actually edge it with three wins to Brighton’s two, and goals have flowed freely when they’ve met.
The most recent clash came in the FA Cup back in February 2018, when Brighton won 3-1 at home. Before that, they faced off three times in the Championship between 2006 and the 2011/12 season, with Coventry winning two of those three. It’s distant history, but in a dressing room searching for belief, any edge counts.
