Craig Bellamy Not Returning to Burnley

Craig Bellamy will not be returning to Turf Moor.

The Wales manager, strongly linked with the Burnley vacancy after their relegation from the Premier League, is no longer in the frame for the job, with the move said to have “fallen through” according to reports.

Bellamy had already drawn a clear line over one potential escape route from international management, making it known he would not walk away from the Wales post for Celtic. Burnley, though, looked different. A club he knows. A project he appeared willing to consider. For a brief spell, the prospect of Bellamy leading the Clarets back to the top flight felt very real.

That door has now shut.

Sky Sports News report that Burnley have moved on and are focusing on other candidates. Steve Cooper is among the names under serious consideration, while Rob Edwards – recently dismissed by Wolverhampton Wanderers – has also emerged as a target.

The shift ends a short, intriguing chapter in Bellamy’s coaching story with Burnley. He previously served as assistant to Vincent Kompany, helping shape the bold, possession-heavy style that powered the club out of the Championship before their immediate drop back to the second tier. Kompany has since gone to Bayern Munich, and for a while it seemed natural that Bellamy might step into the space his former boss left behind.

Burnley must now find a different figurehead for their reset.

Since the 2021/22 season, the Lancashire club have bounced between the Premier League and Championship, never quite settling, never fully stabilising. The next appointment is not just about style or sentiment; it is about survival. The board will demand a manager capable of dragging the club out of this yo-yo pattern and keeping them among the elite.

Bellamy stays with Wales. Burnley look elsewhere. The vacancy remains, the stakes rise, and the next man through the door will walk straight into a club that can no longer afford another misstep.
