Cristian Volpato Faces Cocaine Allegation After Speeding Incidents in Sydney

Cristian Volpato, the 22-year-old soccer player who represented Australia at the World Cup, allegedly tested positive for cocaine following two speeding stops by Sydney police. The young athlete had recently switched from playing for Italy to becoming one of Australia's standout players in the tournament.

According to New South Wales police, Volpato was clocked driving at 109 km/h on Sydney’s Anzac Bridge, exceeding the speed limit by 50 km/h around 1 a.m. on Friday. Following this, a roadside drug test reportedly detected cocaine in his system. Police have stated that a second sample will be analyzed, and his driver's license has been suspended for six months pending further investigation.

The same night, around 11 p.m. on Thursday, Volpato was stopped earlier for speeding over 20 km/h above the limit. He received an infringement notice but passed an alcohol test at that time.

Volpato currently plays club football in Italy with Sassuolo. Born in Sydney, he previously represented Italy at the Under-20 level after joining Roma in 2020. His recent switch to play for Australia at the senior World Cup brought him into the spotlight before these allegations surfaced.
