Cristiano Ronaldo Set to Join Al-Nassr Ownership Bid

Cristiano Ronaldo is no longer just the face of Al-Nassr’s project. He might soon be one of the men who own it.

Portuguese newspaper "A Bola" has reported that a five-man consortium is being assembled to launch a formal bid to buy Al-Nassr from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). At the heart of it: Ronaldo himself.

Ronaldo steps into the boardroom

The revelation is as bold as it is unexpected. The group of investors includes Al-Nassr’s captain and top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo; Gerry Cardinale, the American chief executive of RedBird Capital and owner of Italian giants Milan; and three Saudi businessmen: Ibrahim Al-Muhaidib, Mohammed Al-Khereiji and Sharaf Al-Hariri.

For Ronaldo, the move would mark a dramatic evolution of his role in Riyadh. Since arriving in the Saudi Pro League, he has been the club’s main attraction, its leader on the pitch and its global marketing engine off it. If this deal goes through, he would move from symbol to stakeholder.

No longer just the player driving the project. One of the men shaping it.

A $500 million play for Al-Nassr

According to "A Bola", the consortium’s plan is clear and heavy on numbers. Each of the five investors would commit around $100 million, building a war chest of roughly $500 million to push through the takeover and fuel the club’s future.

The structure is deliberate. Ronaldo and Cardinale bring global football clout and international investment experience. The trio of Saudi businessmen add local knowledge, commercial reach and direct links into the Saudi sports and business landscape.

Cardinale’s presence is particularly notable. Through RedBird Capital and his ownership of Milan, he already operates at the sharp end of elite football. His involvement gives the Al-Nassr project an international edge and a model of how a modern, investment-driven club can be run.

All eyes on the Public Investment Fund

For now, everything stops at one door: the Public Investment Fund.

"A Bola" reports that representatives of RedBird and the wider consortium are preparing for a key meeting with PIF officials in the coming period to discuss the proposal. That encounter will define whether this story becomes a seismic shift or a footnote.

If PIF approves, control of Al-Nassr could pass into the hands of this new investor group. If it refuses, the negotiations stall and the project freezes before it truly begins.

The stakes are obvious. PIF currently holds the controlling stake in Al-Nassr, and its decision will dictate not only ownership but the strategic direction of one of Saudi Arabia’s flagship clubs.

A club on the brink of a new era

All of this unfolds as Al-Nassr stand at a crossroads, both competitively and commercially. The team is chasing trophies, the league is chasing global relevance, and the club itself is a central pillar in Saudi Arabia’s wider sporting push.

Change hands now, and the impact would be immediate. A Ronaldo-backed consortium taking over one of the country’s biggest clubs would rank among the most significant deals in Saudi football history, not just in terms of money, but in symbolism.

The captain of the team, investing in the badge he wears.

If the talks turn into signatures and the signatures into control, Al-Nassr’s next chapter will not just be written on the pitch. It will be written in the boardroom, with Cristiano Ronaldo seated at the table.
