Derby County Signs Alex Mowatt from West Brom

Derby County have landed midfielder Alex Mowatt from West Bromwich Albion on a two-year deal, ending a brief but sharp transfer tussle between the Championship rivals.

The 31-year-old joins the Rams for an undisclosed fee, just two days after West Brom rejected Derby’s initial approach. The second bid hit the mark, and Derby have moved quickly to bring in a proven Championship operator at the heart of their midfield.

Mowatt, who came through at Leeds United and later impressed at Barnsley, had one year left on his contract at The Hawthorns, having signed for West Brom in the summer of 2021. His time there closes on 170 appearances, the last of which came only last week in the Carabao Cup first-round win over Rotherham.

Now he swaps stripes for a Ram on his chest, stepping into a Derby side intent on sharpening its edge in the middle of the pitch.
