Paul Dickov on Erling Haaland’s Future and Elliot Anderson’s Role Amid Man City’s FFP Troubles

Paul Dickov, a former Manchester City player, told GOAL that no one really knows if Erling Haaland is thinking about leaving the club. The ongoing Financial Fair Play (FFP) case involving the club, with 115 charges against them, has created a cloud of uncertainty.

FFP Charges and Their Impact

An independent commission declared Man City guilty of numerous breaches, while the Premier League accused the club of making “sham arrangements” during the era under Pep Guardiola. Despite this, City denies wrongdoing and has appealed the decision, hoping to clear their name. This saga has been a distraction for fans, players, and staff alike.

If City faces heavy sanctions like points deductions or even relegation, it could lead some players to consider transfers. Haaland, who has been linked to Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid, might be among those thinking about their next move after possibly just five years at the Etihad Stadium.

“Nobody knows. I was speaking to somebody when I was in at the club, are the players going to leave, and nobody knows,” said Dickov. “It’s really difficult to comment until you know what the sanctions are, if they are found guilty and the appeal has not worked.”

Players’ Mindset and Upcoming Matches

Dickov believes the players will react professionally despite the pressure. With experience in big games, they might adopt a siege mentality or simply focus on football. The upcoming game against Liverpool will be a key test of how the squad handles the situation.

New Signings and Their Guarantees

Among the new signings this summer, Elliot Anderson from England and World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez from Argentina joined for more than £100 million combined. Dickov thinks these players were likely given guarantees about the club’s future before signing.

“I can only imagine they had guarantees when they signed about the club going forward,” he said. “Like the fans, all the players can do is just trust in the club and what they’re doing.”

Teenage talent Ayyoub Bouaddi is another youngster recently added amid this challenging backdrop.

City’s Strong Start Despite Off-Field Issues

Despite the off-field turmoil, Man City have begun the 2026-27 season strongly. They’ve won all five Premier League matches so far, leading the table. They also progressed to the Carabao Cup fourth round and secured a Champions League victory. New manager Enzo Maresca took over from Guardiola and aims to continue City's pursuit of major trophies.

  • Premier League Record: 5 wins, 0 losses

This clash carries extra weight as Liverpool is one of the clubs considering compensation claims if the FFP allegations against City are upheld.
