Djed Spence Interested in Liverpool Move as Tottenham Sets £35m Price

Liverpool’s search for defensive reinforcements has taken a sharp turn towards north London, with Djed Spence understood to be keen on a move to Anfield and Tottenham Hotspur ready to do business at the right price.

The England international, who impressed on the biggest stage at the World Cup and emerged as one of Spurs’ better performers last season, has moved towards the front of a growing list of full-back options under consideration on Merseyside.

Liverpool’s defensive gap widens

Andoni Iraola’s first summer in charge has already brought Victor Munoz and Jeremy Jacquet through the door, and the club continue to push for attacking firepower with PSG duo Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye firmly on the radar.

But the real tension in Liverpool’s squad sits further back.

Jacquet, Virgil van Dijk, Giovanni Leoni and Joe Gomez are all currently unavailable for various reasons, leaving Iraola with a patched-up back line and precious little cover in the full-back areas. For a side built on aggressive pressing and high defensive lines, that is a problem that cannot be kicked down the road.

The internal view is clear: Liverpool need a full-back and a centre-back before the window closes. Spence ticks one of those boxes.

Spence open to Anfield switch

The 24-year-old finds himself in a curious position at Tottenham. He has enhanced his reputation with England and offered reliability when called upon at club level, yet the pathway to a starting role in north London looks congested.

With Pedro Porro and Andy Robertson expected to be the preferred full-backs for Spurs next season, Spence is unlikely to be first choice, and that reality has opened the door to a potential exit.

According to Anfield Sector, Liverpool’s interest is genuine and Spence is “extremely receptive” to the idea of joining Iraola’s squad. The report underlines that he is not the only name on the table, and there is no guarantee the pursuit will advance, but the admiration from Liverpool’s side is described as “definite”, even if publicly downplayed.

For a player eager to cement his place as a regular at both club and international level, the pull of Anfield and the promise of a prominent role in a reshaped defence carry obvious weight.

Spurs set their terms

Tottenham’s stance has started to come into focus. Club reporter @szyexcl stated that Spurs would seek at least £35m for Spence this summer, adding that Liverpool do indeed hold an interest and that the player would be “very open” to the move if an offer arrives.

Inside the game, there is a feeling that even that figure may undersell his value. Former Premier League scout Bryan King argued last month that Tottenham would be “stupid” to accept anything less than £50m for a young, current England international.

“I think he’s done well every time he’s played for England. They’d be foolish to let him go for £25m, that is for sure,” King said. “You wouldn’t let him go for £25m. You wouldn’t even start thinking about letting him go for under £50m. We’re talking about a young, current England international. It’s a situation where Tottenham would be stupid to let him go.”

That divergence between a reported £35m starting point and a £50m valuation from an experienced eye frames the negotiation battleground. Liverpool, historically shrewd in the market, rarely overpay for full-backs. Spurs, under pressure to balance their squad while retaining value, will not want to be seen as easy sellers.

A window that demands decisions

For now, Spence sits in the middle of two clubs with very different problems. Tottenham have depth at full-back and a saleable asset. Liverpool have a glaring defensive shortage and a clear profile of player in mind.

The interest is real. The player is willing. The price is the question.
