Endrick Confirms Staying at Real Madrid Despite Aston Villa Interest and Mourinho's Plans
Brazilian forward Endrick has decided to remain at Real Madrid for the upcoming 2025-26 campaign, setting aside interest from Premier League club Aston Villa. This choice came after discussions involving the player, the club's leadership, and head coach Jose Mourinho.
Internal Agreement at Valdebebas
Despite several European teams showing strong interest in the 20-year-old, especially given his irregular playing time, Endrick and Real Madrid have agreed on his stay. Premier League side Aston Villa had been closely watching his progress since his arrival in Europe, hoping to secure his signature.
Mourinho's Tactical Approach to Endrick
Jose Mourinho plans to deploy Endrick more frequently on the right wing this season. The manager views neither midfield powerhouse Federico Valverde nor newcomer Bernardo Silva as long-term fixtures for that position. By using Endrick there, Mourinho aims to create a balanced and versatile attacking trio that can shift fluidly during matches.
Besides operating on the flank, Endrick will also serve as the main backup striker to star forward Kylian Mbappe. He is expected to share this role with new signing Carlos Espi, ensuring he remains an integral part of the squad rotation in both La Liga and Champions League games.
Tracking Endrick's Development Since Joining Madrid
The Brazilian joined Real Madrid from Palmeiras in July 2024 for an initial €35 million fee plus potential add-ons reaching €25 million. So far, he has appeared 40 times for the club, scoring seven goals despite limited minutes on the pitch.
Internationally, Endrick retains prominence, having been selected by former Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti for Brazil’s World Cup squad. He participated in all but one match during the tournament, where Brazil exited in the round of 16 following a loss to Norway.
Preparations Ahead of the New La Liga Season
Real Madrid is gearing up for its La Liga opener against Espanyol on August 22. Keeping Endrick contrasts with the club's approach to other young talents; for example, teen prospect Franco Mastantuono was loaned out to Fiorentina for more playing time.
Endrick’s situation will be reviewed in January, reflecting a similar strategy when he went on loan to Lyon earlier this year. During that spell in Ligue 1, he impressed by netting eight goals in 21 appearances across all competitions.
