Ferran Torres Joins PSG After World Cup Glory

Ferran Torres, the man who fired Spain to World Cup glory with an extra-time winner against Argentina, is on the move again. This time, to Paris.

The 26-year-old forward has joined European champions Paris St-Germain from Barcelona, signing a contract that runs until 2031. The fee is reported to be around 50m euros (£42.7m), a price that reflects a year in which his reputation has rocketed.

Torres arrives in Paris as a World Cup match-winner and a La Liga champion. Last season he hit 21 goals in 49 games in all competitions for Barcelona, adding three assists and playing a key role in their league title triumph. That form, coupled with his decisive strike at the World Cup last month that delivered Spain’s second men’s title, has pushed him firmly into the elite bracket.

Now he steps into a dressing room he already knows well. PSG are coached by Luis Enrique, the man who handed Torres his Spain debut and helped shape his international career. Under Enrique, Torres has scored 25 goals in 65 appearances for the national team, a return that underlines why PSG were prepared to invest heavily.

The move also fits a clear pattern in Paris. PSG, who have lifted the Champions League in each of the past two seasons, are not easing off. They are reloading. Torres becomes their second major attacking signing of the summer after Maghnes Akliouche arrived from Monaco, adding another sharp edge to an already ruthless frontline.

The trophies keep coming too. On Wednesday, PSG beat Aston Villa 2-1 to win the Uefa Super Cup, another piece of silverware for a club that has grown used to collecting them.

For Barcelona, Torres’ departure closes a chapter that began in 2022 after his switch from Manchester City. In Paris, it opens a new one: a World Cup hero reunited with the coach who trusted him first, at a club that expects to win everything.

There is a twist to the attacking reshuffle. PSG could yet lose Bradley Barcola before the window closes, with Liverpool circling.
