The walk back to the car should have been routine. Instead, it turned into a violent street robbery that left RUSG forward Fuseini briefly in hospital and a 23-year-old suspect behind bars.
The assault, filmed on a mobile phone by a team-mate walking just behind him, gave Brussels police exactly what they needed. Clear images. Clear suspects. The footage circulated quickly among investigators and helped lead them to the alleged perpetrators in short order.
RUSG moved to calm fears over their striker’s condition after the incident, which took place last Sunday. “The footage from last Sunday is particularly disturbing. He subsequently went to the hospital for a check-up and received excellent care from the Brussels police, whom we warmly thank for their outstanding work. His injuries are minor, and he resumed training yesterday,” the club confirmed.
For a player already fighting his way back from a stop-start season, it was a jarring off-field blow. Fuseini, a popular figure in the dressing room, has scored 14 goals in 71 appearances for RUSG and is under contract until 2028. Muscle, ankle and hamstring problems had already forced him to miss 25 matches over 145 days during the 2025-26 campaign. Just as he was rebuilding rhythm, real life crashed in.

The Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office laid out the bare facts in a statement quoted by Het Laatste Nieuws. “Three individuals fell victim to a violent robbery while heading to their vehicle in Brussels. According to initial findings from the investigation, several individuals attacked them and stole various valuables, including watches, phones, and personal belongings.”
The pressure on the suspects did not take long to tell. Stolen items were recovered during a search of a 23-year-old man’s home, and he has since been remanded in custody at Haren prison. The prosecutor requested an investigating judge and charged the suspect, who reportedly has no prior criminal record, with violent gang robbery.
Two of the three victims suffered injuries serious enough to cause a temporary incapacity for work, underlining the force used in the attack.
Legal Proceedings
The suspect’s lawyer, Samuel Rosenblatt, confirmed his client’s detention on charges of gang robbery with violence. “I cannot say anything further about that, as the judicial investigation is still ongoing. My client is aware of the severity of the facts and regrets them,” he said.
For now, the legal process moves into the hands of the investigating judge, while Fuseini returns to what he knows best. Training, matches, recovery. After a season already shaped by medical bulletins and rehab schedules, the forward must now carry the mental scars of a street assault as well.
