Giacomo Raspadori Withdraws from Italy's Nations League Squad Before France Clash
Giacomo Raspadori will not take part in Italy's upcoming Nations League games against France and Turkiye due to injury. The Atalanta forward has been released from the national team after medical checks confirmed he cannot play in these fixtures.
Injury Forces Early Exit
The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) announced that Raspadori will return to his club following evaluations by the Azzurri medical staff. The decision came after it was clear he wasn't fit enough for the challenging matches ahead, dealing a blow to coach Roberto Mancini who loses a vital attacking option during this international break.
Raspadori suffered an injury at halftime during Italy’s 4-1 Nations League victory over Turkiye, adding to concerns about squad fitness after Nicolo Zaniolo left the camp before that game.
"Giacomo Raspadori, meanwhile, was given complete rest. The Atalanta forward underwent medical tests and, after it was confirmed that he will be unavailable for the upcoming matches, will return to his club," stated the FIGC.
Preparing Without Raspadori
Despite the setback, the team remains upbeat after their strong performance in Bursa. Upon returning to Coverciano, preparations began for the clash with France at Stade de France on October 2, followed by the home match against Turkiye in Bologna on October 5.
Mancini split training sessions to balance recovery and tactical work. Players who played heavily focused on rest, while others engaged in intensive drills at Fiorentina’s Viola Park facilities, working on attack versus defense scenarios. This method aims to keep the squad fresh for the upcoming challenges, even missing one attacker.
Impact on Italy’s Attack
Raspadori's absence comes at a time when Italy’s goal-scoring has been closely watched. Although they scored four against Turkiye, losing a player known for clever movement and technical skill complicates options up front. Mancini now faces the choice of calling up a replacement or relying on those already in the squad.
