Hansi Flick Confident Lamine Yamal Is Regaining Top Form for Barcelona Ahead of Rayo Vallecano Match
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has expressed strong confidence that teenage winger Lamine Yamal is quickly returning to his best form. After a tough period marked by recovery from a major injury and demanding international duties, the young talent is said to be finding his joy on the pitch once more.
Recovery From Injury and International Pressure
The 19-year-old faced a challenging start to this season following a serious hamstring injury last April. Despite a quiet performance in the opening match against Elche, Yamal showed glimpses of his potential in the recent win over Athletic Bilbao. Flick reassured fans that Yamal’s progress is positive as they prepare for their upcoming La Liga game against Rayo Vallecano.
"I know everyone is worried about how is Lamine, how is he doing. And of course, look at his situation, he played a World Cup after a huge injury," Flick told reporters. "Now he’s coming back after three weeks holiday... and also the first game maybe was not his best game. But I said this, I was very happy that he starts the game and he worked for the team."
Building Fitness Through Playing Time
Flick highlighted the importance of Yamal playing full matches as part of his rehabilitation. The coach was pleased with the winger completing 90 minutes against Athletic Bilbao, noting the physical demands this entails at such a high level.
"He played 90 minutes against Bilbao. And for him at the moment, it’s also good to have 90 minutes on the pitch," Flick said. "We saw him in some situations really on this top level. Now, you couldn’t see this in the training session today, but I saw it and it was excellent. Everyone loves Lamine and he’s in a good way. We have to support him and we do that."
Mental Boost for Barcelona's Rising Star
Beyond fitness, Flick commented on Yamal’s mental state, which seemed fragile after the season opener but has since improved significantly. The youngster appears happier during training, something that Flick believes is essential for a creative player like Yamal.
"Of course, it’s always good when the players are smiling, but it’s not every day the same day. I’m also not smiling every day -- it’s like that," Flick added.
Squad Depth and Striker Situation
While much attention focuses on Yamal, Flick also addressed broader squad issues, especially the attack. With Raphinha filling in as a makeshift striker due to Barcelona missing out on signing Julian Alvarez, Flick expressed satisfaction with the current squad and praised the work of sporting director Deco behind the scenes.
"Of course I’m happy with my team, Deco is working on that to strengthen the team. We don’t have pressure," Flick stated.
