Harry Kane Hopes for Early Ballon d'Or Reveal as Bayern Striker Stays Focused

Harry Kane, Bayern Munich's striker, admitted he would prefer to find out the Ballon d'Or winner ahead of Monday night's event in London. Despite leading the bookmakers' odds, the England captain remains unaware if he has secured the prestigious award.

Awaiting Historic Recognition

The 33-year-old is trying to stay composed before the gala at 20:00 UK time. Kane could become the first Englishman since Michael Owen in 2001 to win the award after scoring 61 goals in 51 club games last season and reaching the World Cup semi-finals. The shortlist also includes Lamine Yamal from Barcelona and Lionel Messi representing Inter Miami.

Kane Extends Goal-Scoring Run in Europe

On Wednesday, Kane contributed by assisting Alphonso Davies and converting a penalty in a 2-2 Champions League draw against Arsenal, increasing his season total to 10 goals in 11 matches. His streak of scoring in 10 consecutive European games puts him just one behind Cristiano Ronaldo's tournament record.

"They want everyone to go, all the big names there and there will be more people watching it if they don’t know, so I can understand why. From my point of view, of course, I’d love to know to just kind of see and not have to wait throughout the whole night. But it is their decision, I can’t control that. We’ll have to just enjoy it and try not to stress out too much," Kane said to reporters.

Ignoring Speculation Amidst Intense Rumors

France Football changed its policy in 2024 to stop revealing winners before the ceremony, though a leak once caused Real Madrid to boycott after Vinicius Junior lost to Rodri. Kane tries to avoid the rumors as much as possible, focusing on upcoming matches instead.

"I try not to think about it. Obviously it is hard not to. There are always rumours flying around and you try to stay away from it. We have important games today and I know we have another important one on Sunday before the event on Monday so that’s where my focus is. Of course I am going to try and enjoy Monday night as much as possible. It is a big occasion so we will have to wait and see," he added.

Upcoming Matches Before Awards Night

  • Arsenal vs. Bayern Munich: Premier League, 24 Oct 2026, 17:00
  • Freiburg vs. Bayern Munich: Bundesliga, 25 Oct 2026, 18:30

Before heading to London for the awards, Kane needs to help Bayern maintain their lead in the Bundesliga against Freiburg, who sit third. Bayern currently struggle in the Champions League, with one win and two draws leaving them 14th in their group.
