Hull City Signs Japan International Hidemasa Morita on Free Transfer
Hull City’s Premier League return has taken on a sharper edge with the arrival of Hidemasa Morita, a midfielder who brings trophies, European pedigree and a touch of steel to the heart of the pitch.
The club have confirmed the 31-year-old Japan international has signed a two-year deal, with an option for a further year, after leaving Sporting on a free transfer. Hull beat off interest from fellow top-flight newcomers Ipswich Town to get the deal over the line, a small but telling victory in an increasingly competitive summer market.

Morita arrives with a decorated CV from his four-year spell in Portugal. At Sporting, he collected two Primeira Liga titles and a Taça de Portugal, embedding himself in a side that mixed domestic dominance with European ambition. He also featured 23 times in the Champions League, helping the Lisbon club reach the quarter-finals last season. Those nights, under that kind of scrutiny, tend to harden a player. Hull are banking on exactly that.
This is a signing that fits the pattern of their summer. Morita becomes Hull’s fourth arrival and their third in a busy week, following Matt Targett and Óscar Zambrano through the door. With 40 caps for Japan, Morita adds international know-how to a dressing room about to step into one of the most unforgiving leagues in world football.
