Defending Champions Enter 2026 Asian Games

As the defending champions, India arrive at the 2026 Asian Games hosted across Aichi and Nagoya with high expectations. Both India and Pakistan have been granted direct entry into the quarterfinals, giving them an advantage but no certainty once knockout matches begin.

Despite their status, a warm-up match against Japan revealed vulnerabilities. The game was rain-shortened to five overs, where India scored only 32 runs. Shreyas Iyer stood out with 16 runs before Japan's bowlers dismantled the top order. The hosts nearly caused an upset, but India narrowly escaped with a two-run victory.
