Inter Milan's Renewed Pursuit of Curtis Jones: Liverpool's Firm Stance
Inter Milan have come back for Curtis Jones. Liverpool’s answer, for now, has not moved an inch.
The Serie A champions have renewed their pursuit of the Liverpool midfielder as they look to reinforce Simone Inzaghi’s squad before defending their title. Their interest never really went away; it has simply become more serious.
Inter push again – but hit the same wall
Inter first tested the water earlier in the summer with an opening offer of around €25 million, a bid Liverpool swiftly rejected. The message from Anfield was blunt: Jones is closer to a €40 million footballer.
Undeterred, Inter have returned through intermediaries with an improved proposal of €35 million. It still falls short. Liverpool continue to point at that €40 million mark and show no appetite for compromise.
Inside the club, there is said to be little interest in softening that stance. The valuation is set, and the Premier League side are treating it as a line in the sand rather than a starting point for negotiation.
Contract ticking, but Liverpool stay firm
On paper, the situation looks like classic leverage for a buying club. Jones is into the final year of his contract. Many teams would cash in rather than risk losing a player for nothing down the line.
Liverpool see it differently.
Club officials are prepared to let the clock run and, if necessary, accept the risk of Jones leaving on a free transfer in 2027 rather than sell him at a price they consider below his worth. For one of their longest-serving first-team players, they are prioritising sporting value over short-term profit.
Their position is strengthened by the wider market. Inside negotiations, Liverpool have pointed to Tottenham Hotspur’s €40 million deal for Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid earlier this year as a benchmark. If Gallagher commands that fee, they argue, Jones sits in the same bracket.
Long-standing admiration from Inter
Inter’s interest is not a sudden reaction to a changing market. The Nerazzurri explored a move as far back as the January window, when they proposed an initial loan with an option to buy. Liverpool dismissed that idea immediately.
This time, Inter are talking in permanent terms. Fresh from another Scudetto, they want to deepen their midfield options and see Jones as a player who can add control, energy and tactical flexibility to a group already rich in experience.
So far, admiration has met resistance. Inter are edging closer to Liverpool’s number, but not close enough to force a breakthrough.
A homegrown pillar at Anfield
Jones is not a superstar name on the global stage, but inside Liverpool he is viewed as a pillar of continuity. A product of the club’s academy, he has spent his entire professional career at Anfield, stepping into the first team in 2019 and never really stepping back out.
Since his senior debut, he has passed the 220-appearance mark, contributing goals, assists and, crucially for successive managers, the ability to plug gaps across multiple midfield roles. His technical quality under pressure, his ball retention and his comfort in different positions make him a reliable tool in a squad that has been reshaped heavily in recent seasons.
Competition for places has grown, but Jones has remained a trusted option – the sort of player coaches lean on in tight games and long seasons.
Future still open – but only on Liverpool’s terms
There are currently no active talks over a contract extension, yet Liverpool are not closing that door. The club are understood to be open to fresh negotiations if the right framework can be found.
For now, the priority is clear: keep Jones, keep control, and keep the valuation where they believe it belongs.
Inter have moved once and then again. If they want to prise a homegrown midfielder out of Anfield before the new Serie A season kicks off, the next move almost certainly has to be theirs.
