Inter Sells Matteo Motta, Eyes Luca Reggiani Amid Dortmund Resistance

Inter have moved on one academy product and set their sights firmly on another – but the second deal looks far more complicated.

The Nerazzurri have officially sold left-back Matteo Motta to Pescara, banking a future stake in his career by retaining 50 per cent of any sell-on fee. Motta, 21, came through Inter’s youth ranks and spent last season on loan at Lumezzane, yet never made a competitive appearance for the senior side before the club decided to cash in.

It is a clean break on the pitch, not on the balance sheet. If Motta explodes in Serie C and earns a move higher up the pyramid, Inter will be waiting at the back end of the deal.

While Motta heads to Abruzzo, Inter’s gaze has turned to Germany.

According to Bild, the Italian giants have once again contacted Borussia Dortmund to sound out the situation of Luca Reggiani, the highly rated 18-year-old central defender. Inter’s interest is not new, but the timing underlines how quickly Reggiani’s stock has risen.

Reggiani, a product of the Sassuolo academy, left Italy for Dortmund in February 2024. The move has proved a launchpad. In Germany he has accelerated through the ranks and, by June 2026, he had already earned a senior Italy cap at just 18 – a rapid ascent that has not gone unnoticed back home.

That rise is exactly why Inter are knocking on Dortmund’s door. It is also why the door is likely to stay shut.

The same report from Germany pours cold water on Inter’s hopes: Dortmund are determined to keep hold of their Italian prospect and have recently extended his contract. For the Bundesliga club, Reggiani is no longer a project; he is part of the plan.

Inter, then, find themselves in a familiar modern dilemma – able to profit from a departing full-back they never truly used, yet struggling to prise away a ready-made defender who has blossomed abroad. The question now is whether they keep pushing for Reggiani or turn to the next name on a growing list of Italian talents making their name far from Serie A.
