Ismael Saibari Impresses on Bayern Munich Debut

Ismael Saibari needed barely a blink to show Bayern Munich what they have bought.

Thrown on in the 71st minute of a pre-season friendly against Leipzig, the Moroccan midfielder stepped into a 3-1 win and immediately left fingerprints all over it. Ten minutes later, he carved out the move that finished the contest, slipping in Jamal Musiala for Bayern’s third goal in the 81st minute.

The club did not let the moment pass quietly. Bayern’s official channels spent Saturday hailing their new signing, welcoming Saibari after his first outing in the famous red shirt and highlighting the “decisive” assist that capped his cameo.

The move itself underlined why Bayern pushed to bring him in from PSV Eindhoven this summer. Saibari found space, picked his head up and fed Musiala with the kind of precise, weighted pass that opens doors even in tight games. Musiala did the rest, before his evening ended early in the 86th minute when he was forced off after a sudden setback.

For Saibari, this debut came quicker than many expected. The 23-year-old had only just rejoined full training with the group, having been on an individual programme to recover from the injury he suffered at the 2026 World Cup.

That tournament had already raised his profile. Wearing Morocco’s colours, Saibari scored three goals on the global stage, driving their campaign before injury ruled him out of the quarter-final defeat to France (2-0). His performances there helped convince Bayern to offer a long-term deal running until 2031.

Now he has his first minutes, his first contribution, and a fanbase already intrigued. One sharp assist in a friendly is only a starting point, but for a club planning deep into the next decade, it was exactly the kind of first impression they wanted.
