Jaissle Confirms Newcastle Injury Boost with Return of Key Players
Newcastle United may have lost 3–1 to Everton in Edinburgh, but Matthias Jaissle walked away from the pre-season defeat with something far more valuable than a result: encouraging news from the treatment room.
The head coach confirmed that Fabian Schär is closing in on a return, with the experienced defender edging back towards full team training after being out since January.
"He's on the way back now," Jaissle said after the game in Scotland. "Hopefully in the next days he will be included in the team training, and then we need to see if he gets some minutes already in the weekend."
For a Newcastle side that leaned heavily on Schär’s experience last season, the prospect of him rejoining the group within days is a significant lift. The plan is simple: get him back on the grass with his team-mates, then, if all goes well, drip-feed him minutes as early as this weekend.
Livramento and Miley not far behind
The good news does not stop with Schär.
Tino Livramento and Lewis Miley are also moving in the right direction as they work through their respective recoveries, with Jaissle placing them on a similar timeline.
"A bit of the same, I would say, like with Fabian," he explained. "Also we're hoping that in the next days they can be integrated in the team sessions, and hopefully also will get some minutes then."
If that schedule holds, Newcastle could soon welcome back three important pieces into full training just as pre-season sharpens and competitive fixtures loom.
Transfer window still open for business
While injuries are easing, eyes naturally turn to the other side of squad building: new arrivals.
Jaissle made it clear he expects more movement before the transfer window closes, even if he refused to be drawn into specifics.
"I will be always consistent with my approach," he said. "We handle these things internally, we are aware of what we need, and as you know, there's still some time."
The message is calm but pointed. Key players are on their way back, reinforcements are being lined up, and with time still on Newcastle’s side in the market, the real shape of Jaissle’s first-season squad is only just beginning to emerge.
