Jeremy Doku Commits to Manchester City with New Contract
Jeremy Doku has committed his peak years to Manchester City, signing a new five-year contract that ties him to the Premier League champions until at least 2031.
For City’s new manager Enzo Maresca, it is a statement signing without spending a penny.
Doku doubles down on City project
Since arriving from Rennes in 2023, Doku has grown from an exciting prospect into one of the league’s most explosive wide forwards. At 24, he already has 131 appearances for City, with 22 goals and 34 assists, numbers that only tell part of the story of his impact on the pitch.
His pace and direct running have helped drive City to a haul of major trophies: the Premier League, the Club World Cup, the FA Cup and the League Cup have all been lifted with Doku playing his part.
The Belgian is settled, and he made it clear this deal is about more than security.
“I have loved my time at City so far, so to have the opportunity to stay for longer is a fantastic feeling,” he said. “This club means so much to me – I have developed as both a player and a person. I feel settled here, and I know I am improving every day because of the work the staff here do.”
Maresca’s style seals the decision
The change in the dugout could have unsettled some players. Instead, it helped lock one down.
Maresca has stepped in to replace Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium, and Doku pointed directly to the Italian’s footballing ideas as a key factor in his decision to sign long term.
“With Enzo here now I am really excited about the new season. His style of football is the kind we love, so that's exciting for the players,” Doku said, underlining how quickly the new manager’s vision has resonated in the dressing room.
For a winger who thrives on structured chaos in the final third, Maresca’s attacking approach offers a platform to go up another level.
City delighted with their “special dynamic”
Inside the club, there is no doubt about Doku’s trajectory.
City’s director of football Hugo Viana did not hold back when assessing the Belgian’s rise since his arrival from France.
“Jeremy is a huge talent whose improvement since joining us in 2023 is clear for all to see,” Viana said. “He has a special dynamic. He has the right characteristics for what we are looking for in a winger. He really does bring a special quality to our team.
“He deserves this new deal, and I know he will continue his improvement in the coming months and years.”
Doku’s international pedigree only strengthens the picture. He already has 48 caps for Belgium and featured at the recent World Cup, experience that feeds into a City side chasing every trophy on offer.
The Premier League campaign kicks off on August 21. With a new manager on the touchline and Doku locked in for the long haul, City’s next evolution is about to begin.
