Joël Piroe Joins West Ham United on Loan for Championship Campaign

Joël Piroe has left Leeds United on loan, joining West Ham United for the rest of the 2026/27 Sky Bet Championship campaign, as the London club pushes for an immediate Premier League return.

The Surinamese striker arrived at Elland Road from Swansea City in August 2023 on the back of a prolific season in South Wales, where he struck 19 league goals and built a reputation as one of the division’s most reliable finishers.

He wasted no time justifying the move. Thrown straight in against Ipswich Town in the Championship just two days after signing, Piroe marked his Leeds debut with a goal, announcing himself to Daniel Farke’s side in style. That first year ended with 53 appearances and 16 goals in all competitions, a steady return as he settled into a new dressing room and a new role in a promotion-chasing squad.

The following season, he became central to Leeds’ resurgence. Piroe featured 48 times and hit 19 goals as the Whites stormed to the Championship title and sealed their return to the Premier League. His finishing earned him the Golden Boot, underlining his status as the division’s standout marksman.

Now 27, Piroe heads to the London Stadium to lead the line for a West Ham side under pressure to respond after relegation last season. The Hammers need goals and a focal point; Piroe arrives with a record that suggests he can provide both.

Leeds, confirming the deal, have thanked the forward for his contribution and wished him well for his spell in claret and blue at the London Stadium.
