Juan Bezerra Joins Shabab Al-Ahli Dubai After Zamalek Exit

Zamalek have drawn a firm line under the Juan Alvina Bezerra saga. On Saturday, the club’s board, led by Hussein Labib, announced a final agreement to sell the Brazilian to Shabab Al-Ahli Dubai, ending his spell in the White shirt after just a single, turbulent season.

The move had been coming.

Bezerra skipped Zamalek’s pre-season preparations and stayed away from early matches, making it clear he wanted out during the current summer window. His stance left him on the fringes just as the new campaign began, turning what had been a successful debut year on the pitch into a standoff off it.

He returned to Cairo last Saturday, rejoining the club after his absence from training, but his message did not change: he wanted a new challenge. Negotiations with Shabab Al-Ahli accelerated, and over the past few days the transfer gathered pace.

Zamalek had already allowed the 44-game midfielder to travel to the UAE to undergo his medical, a clear sign that the club were ready to move on. The final confirmation came today, with the Cairo giants issuing an official statement to seal the deal.

“The board of Zamalek, chaired by Hussein Labib, announces that an agreement has been reached regarding the transfer of Brazilian Juan Bezerra to Shabab Al-Ahli Dubai of the UAE, after the requirements set by Zamalek at the start of the negotiations in the summer transfer window this year were met,” the club declared.

On the pitch, Bezerra’s numbers from last season underline why his departure will be felt. He featured in 44 matches across all competitions, scoring 8 goals and providing 12 assists. His creativity and end product pushed Zamalek through several key fixtures, and he played his part in delivering the Egyptian Premier League title – his first and only trophy with the club.

Then it ended abruptly, on his own request.

While Zamalek closed the file with a formal statement, Shabab Al-Ahli chose a more playful tone. From their official account came the line: “They searched for the date of the announcement.. Dubai is the destination”.

For Bezerra, the destination is now clear. Cairo is in the rear-view mirror. Dubai awaits.
