Klopp’s Journey from Liverpool to Germany
After ending a memorable nine-year spell at Liverpool in 2024, where he won Premier League and Champions League titles, Klopp took a break from coaching. He chose to end his contract early and accepted a position as Head of Global Football at Red Bull, allowing him more time with family and less pressure from managing daily team affairs.
The lure of football eventually drew him back, with rumors connecting him to top clubs like Real Madrid. After watching Julian Nagelsmann lead Germany to a disappointing last-32 exit in the 2026 World Cup, Klopp accepted the challenge to manage Die Mannschaft. At 59, he signed a contract extending through the 2030 World Cup, ready to return to coaching at the highest level.

“Be less sh*t! The bar isn’t very high, I think, at the moment,” Huth told GOAL. “That appointment already brought that sense of togetherness in Germany, even before they played a game.”
Huth praised Klopp’s personality and experience, emphasizing how his approach can reunite the nation’s team. Reflecting on Klopp’s first press conference, Huth said it was honest and direct—no nonsense about past failures but a clear call for players to work harder and show more passion when wearing the German badge.
Huth added, “It could have been easy for Klopp to criticize previous managers, but he didn’t. Instead, he acknowledged that Germany needs to step up compared to other strong nations like France, England, Brazil, and Argentina.”
So far, Klopp’s visits to Bundesliga matches and pre-season games have impressed clubs, and there is optimism about Germany’s chances in upcoming tournaments. While winning outright remains tough with such competition, the commitment to leave everything on the pitch is seen as a positive change.
“We’ve been sh*t since 2014, so a semi-final would be all right. If Germany can bring any of the intensity, pace, energy, and spirit Klopp showed at Liverpool and Dortmund, then I’m getting excited! Replicating that in a national team is hard, but if anyone can do it, it’s Klopp. That’s heavy metal football!”
