Juventus Signs Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario on Loan
Juventus have their new No. 1 – or at least the man they hope will become it.
The Turin club confirmed on Tuesday the signing of Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham, a move designed to anchor the next cycle of their rebuild between the posts. The 29-year-old arrives on loan until 30 June 2027, as announced on Juventus’ official channels.
It’s a long loan, and a clear statement. Juventus are not just covering a gap; they are betting on a goalkeeper to grow with the team.
According to French outlet Foot Mercato, the deal includes an option to buy set at around 10 million euros including bonuses, a figure that could look like sharp business if Vicario settles quickly in Serie A’s most scrutinised penalty area.
This is a homecoming of sorts. Born in 1996, Vicario came through the Udinese academy before taking the long road to the top. Venezia, Perugia, Cagliari, Empoli – each stop added minutes, pressure, and personality. At Empoli he truly emerged, collecting 69 Serie A appearances and building a reputation as one of the league’s most reliable shot-stoppers.
Tottenham called in 2023. Vicario crossed the Channel, stepped into the Premier League spotlight and never really flinched. He played 117 matches for the London club and helped them lift the Europa League in the 2024/25 season, a European trophy that sharpened his profile and his mentality.
Now comes Turin. A different weight. A different expectation.
Interestingly, Vicario was not the first name on Juventus’ list. Reports in recent weeks linked the club with Argentina’s World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez and Japanese prospect Zion Suzuki. The search dragged on, the rumour mill spun, and then the choice settled on the Italian – proven in Serie A, seasoned abroad, still in his peak years.
The pressure will be immediate. At Juventus, goalkeepers are judged not only on saves, but on presence, calm, and how they carry the shirt. Vicario has fought his way up the ladder one rung at a time. The question now is simple: can he turn this long-awaited chance into ownership of the Juventus goal for years to come?
