Juventus Signs Guglielmo Vicario on Loan from Tottenham
Juventus have turned away from Emiliano Martínez and moved decisively for Guglielmo Vicario, agreeing a deal with Tottenham for the goalkeeper to join on an initial loan.
The agreement includes an option to buy next summer for £8.6m, giving the Italian club a relatively low‑risk route to securing a long-term No 1 if Vicario convinces in Turin.
Juventus change course
For weeks, Juventus had circled Martínez. Aston Villa’s decision to push ahead with a £30m move for Parma’s Zion Suzuki opened the door, and the Argentina international looked a serious candidate to take over in goal in Turin.
Then came the stumbling block. A €10m bid from Juventus was rejected over the weekend, and with Martínez currently sidelined by a finger injury, the Italian giants pivoted. Vicario, out of favour at Spurs but proven at Serie A level, quickly became the clearer, cleaner solution.
Vicario pushed out at Spurs
Vicario’s departure underlines how quickly the landscape has shifted at Tottenham. Signed in 2023 for £17.2m and trusted as first choice across almost 120 appearances, he now finds himself surplus to requirements after losing his place as Roberto De Zerbi’s No 1 to Antonin Kinsky.
The change in hierarchy has been ruthless. De Zerbi has not only promoted Kinsky but also brought in Martin Dubravka on a free transfer as cover, closing off any realistic path back for Vicario. At 29, the Italy international needs games, and Juventus can offer exactly that.
He joins a growing exodus from north London this summer. Cristian Romero, Djed Spence, Will Lankshear and Yves Bissouma have already gone, and the list of potential departures is not finished.
Sarr interest and a spending spree
Pape Matar Sarr is wanted by Everton and Nottingham Forest, with Spurs valuing the Senegal midfielder at £30m. Any sale there would add to a window that has already been frenetic.
Tottenham have spent more than £200m on six new signings, a statement of intent that has reshaped De Zerbi’s squad in a single summer. The rebuild is not slowing down either.
Savinho is high on their attacking wishlist. The Brazil forward, on Manchester City’s books, was left out of Enzo Maresca’s squad for the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal in Cardiff and is thought to be open to a move. That absence has only fuelled the sense that a transfer is in play.
Spurs have also been heavily linked with Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo as De Zerbi looks to add more punch to his forward line. With Vicario heading for Turin and money already poured into reinforcements, Tottenham’s next move in the market will say plenty about how far – and how fast – this overhaul is meant to go.
