Juventus Target Vicario Amid Suzuki Bidding War
Juventus are back in the goalkeeping market, and this time the search has a sharper edge. With Michele Di Gregorio on his way out, the club have drawn a clear shortlist: Guglielmo Vicario and Zion Suzuki.
Two very different profiles. One proven in Europe’s major leagues, the other the rising star whose stock has exploded on the biggest stage.
Vicario on the market, door opens for Juve
In North London, Vicario’s situation has turned quickly. Once a central figure at Tottenham, he has now been left out of Roberto De Zerbi’s pre-season squad. That decision is no subtle message. Spurs are ready to move him on if the right proposal lands on the table.
Inter had been heavily linked with the 29-year-old for months. The path seemed to lead towards Milan. Now, Turin has entered the frame.
Juventus have not yet lodged a formal offer for the former Empoli goalkeeper. They are watching, calculating, waiting. Tottenham, for their part, are open to a loan with an option to buy, a structure that immediately makes Vicario a more realistic target for a club still managing its finances carefully.
His contract runs until 2028, but that long deal does not mean an inflated fee. On the contrary, with Spurs prepared to negotiate and the player out of De Zerbi’s plans, Vicario could be prised away on what amounts to a cut-price deal.
He wants to come back to Serie A. Three years after leaving Empoli for England’s capital, the chance to return as Juventus’ No.1 would be hard to resist.
Suzuki shines, price soars
Yet for all the logic around Vicario, Luciano Spalletti’s gaze keeps drifting elsewhere.
Zion Suzuki has just delivered a breakout tournament for Japan at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He did not simply perform well; he announced himself. Those performances have transformed him from a promising young goalkeeper into one of the most coveted in Europe.
Parma have reacted accordingly. The Crusaders have pinned a €30 million price tag on the 23-year-old, a figure that reflects both his potential and the reality of a market where elite goalkeepers are scarce.
That valuation has not scared everyone away. Paris Saint-Germain, reigning European champions and one of the few clubs able to dictate the tempo of any transfer window, have also fixed their sights on Suzuki. If PSG decide to move decisively, they can meet Parma’s demands without blinking.
For Juventus, that changes the landscape. A straight bidding war with PSG rarely ends well for anyone else.
A strategic crossroads for Juventus
This is where the decision becomes brutal rather than romantic.
On one side stands Suzuki: 23, already tested under World Cup pressure, with the kind of athletic profile and upside that could anchor Juventus’ goal for a decade. On the other stands Vicario: 29, experienced, battle-hardened, available on favourable terms, and eager for redemption after losing his place in London.
Spalletti, by all accounts, still dreams of bringing Suzuki to the Allianz Stadium. The long-term vision is obvious. A young, international-level goalkeeper, secured at the start of his prime, would fit perfectly into a Juventus rebuilding plan that demands both quality and longevity.
But the market does not bend to dreams. With PSG circling and Parma holding firm at €30 million, Juventus may find the Suzuki deal slipping beyond their reach. If that happens, the club’s gaze is likely to swing back to Vicario, the more attainable option who still offers reliability and Serie A pedigree.
The verdict is clear even inside Turin: Suzuki would be the superior solution for the record Italian champions. The question is whether Juventus can afford the ideal, or whether they will be forced to settle for the pragmatic.
In a summer defined by tight margins and hard choices, their next move in goal will say a lot about where this new Juventus truly intends to go.
