KCB FC Launches Bold Rebuild for 2026/27 Season
KCB FC are not tinkering. They are tearing up and rewriting.
After a flat 2025/26 season that yielded seventh place in the FKF Premier League and a fourth-place finish in the FKF Cup, the bankers have launched a sweeping overhaul of both the touchline and the dressing room ahead of the 2026/27 SportPesa League campaign.
This is not a refresh. It is a reset.
Matano’s bench gets sharper
Veteran head coach Robert Matano will walk into pre-season flanked by two new lieutenants.
Peter Okidi Okoth arrives as assistant coach after leaving newly promoted Mombasa United, adding fresh eyes and energy to the dugout. Alongside him, former Gor Mahia goalkeeping coach Bonface Olouch Otieno takes charge of the gloves department, tasked with tightening a key area if KCB are to move from nearly-men to genuine contenders.
Behind them, the backroom has already been quietly upgraded. Video analyst Tobby Owino, brought in last season, stays on to give Matano and his staff detailed insight on opponents and his own squad. Strength and conditioning coach Samuel Macharia, who returned in the second half of the last campaign, continues in his role, anchoring the physical side of a team that wants to play with intensity from August to May.
Matano is clear: this is a technical bench built for demands, not comfort.
“We have been deliberate in identifying players who fit the way we want to play and who possess the quality, discipline and mentality required at KCB. The reinforcement of our technical bench will ensure that we are better prepared for the demands of the new season,” he said.
Seven new faces, one clear message
On the pitch, KCB have moved aggressively in the market, landing seven signings that redraw the spine and edges of the team.
The full-back positions get immediate surgery. Right-back Mark Oduor joins from Shabana FC, while left-back Jim Owili arrives from Mara Sugar, giving Matano fresh legs and width on both flanks.
In front of the defence, Fidel Origa comes in from Gor Mahia to anchor midfield, a defensive shield expected to set the platform for everything KCB do with and without the ball.
Creativity through the middle is handed to attacking midfielder Brian Ouru, signed from Mathare United, whose job will be to link play and unlock stubborn defences that too often stalled KCB’s progress last season.
Out wide, Burundian winger Franck Nduwimana, recruited from Rwanda’s Gorilla, offers direct running and unpredictability, the kind of one-v-one threat that can tilt tight league games.
Up top, Shabana striker Assis Mambote is brought in to finish off the moves this rebuilt side is designed to create, while central midfielder Geoffrey Ojunga joins from Bandari to add depth and competition in the engine room.
Seven players, spread across the pitch. This is not opportunism; it is architecture.
Ambition from the top
If Matano’s words set the tone on the training ground, the club’s hierarchy have matched it in the boardroom.
KCB FC Patron Azu Ogola framed the moves as a statement of intent, not a reactionary scramble.
“KCB have consistently demonstrated their ambition to compete at the highest level, and these changes reflect our commitment to building a team capable of challenging for trophies. We have assembled a strong technical team and recruited quality players who share our vision," Ogola said.
He did not stop there.
“As we head into the new season, our expectations are clear: we want to be competitive in every match and make our supporters proud through consistent performances.”
The message is unmistakable: seventh place is no longer acceptable. Cup runs are not enough. The club wants silverware in a league that grows more unforgiving by the year.
From nearly to necessary
Last season’s numbers told a story of a team stuck between tiers: too strong to drift into trouble, not ruthless enough to live with the very best. This summer’s recruitment drive is designed to close that gap in one bold swing.

KCB step into the 2026/27 SportPesa League with pressure, yes, but also with clarity. Under Robert Matano, this group will not be judged on potential or promise.
They will be judged on whether they finally turn all this deliberate building into domestic trophies.
