Leah Davidson Joins Charlton Athletic from Melbourne City

Charlton Athletic have moved to strengthen the heart of their midfield with the signing of Australia international Leah Davidson from A-League Women’s side Melbourne City on a two-year deal.

At 25, Davidson arrives in London with a serious pedigree. She has just come off six seasons in Australia, a spell defined by consistency and silverware. Three straight league titles tell their own story. So do more than 100 appearances for Melbourne City, the club she joined from Brisbane Roar in 2020 and quickly became a mainstay for.

Her form there pushed her into the Australia set-up, where she has earned four caps, and now into the next phase of her career in England.

For Charlton, this is another clear statement of intent. Davidson becomes their second signing of the week, following the arrival of goalkeeper Anna Koivunen from Djurgardens IF, as the club quietly rebuilds its spine with players used to high standards and high stakes.

"I am so excited to be here and be a part of something so special," she said, reflecting on the leap from a dominant Melbourne City side to a new challenge in England. "I spent six years at Melbourne City. I loved it, grew as a player and a person, but I thought: 'I can't say no to this opportunity.'

Charlton are betting that the mentality which helped drive a title-winning machine in Australia can translate quickly to English football. Davidson is betting that this is the stage where her game goes up another level.
