Liverpool's Pursuit of Barcola Hits a Standstill

Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola has hit a deliberate pause, with talks with Paris Saint-Germain currently on ice as the two clubs remain miles apart on valuation, according to L’Équipe.

The 23-year-old France international has been identified inside Anfield as a priority attacking signing. Liverpool want him. Barcola is open to the move and is not inclined to extend his contract at the Parc des Princes. On paper, it looks like a deal that should move quickly.

It hasn’t.

PSG are standing firm on a price tag in the region of £145 million for the former Lyon forward. Liverpool have refused to go anywhere near that figure, wary of being dragged into a bidding war that would shatter their current structure. For now, that resistance has brought negotiations to a standstill.

While the talks cool, the French champions are busy reshaping their own attack. Les Parisiens are closing in on the arrivals of Ferran Torres, 25, and Mika Godts, 21, as they refresh the options around their forward line. Once those deals are finalised, the picture around Barcola’s future could look very different.

Liverpool know it. That is why they are prepared to wait.

The plan on Merseyside is to circle back in the final 10 days of the window, when the pressure on PSG to trim their squad and balance the numbers could start to bite. At that point, Liverpool will test again whether the UEFA Champions League winners are ready to soften their stance and drop the asking price for a player who does not want to commit long term in Paris.
