Liverpool's Pursuit of Bradley Barcola Gains Momentum

Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola has moved into a new, far more promising phase – and this time, the clock seems to be ticking in their favour.

The Paris Saint-Germain winger has been Liverpool’s preferred attacking target for months, and the feeling is mutual. Barcola is keen on Anfield. Andoni Iraola wants a new wide forward with pace, flair and end-product. The 23-year-old fits the brief almost perfectly.

The problem, until now, has been PSG.

Dominoes Falling in Paris

Liverpool have yet to strike an agreement with the French champions, who have treated Barcola as one of Luis Enrique’s most influential attackers. But the landscape in Paris is shifting.

Ben Jacobs, speaking on GIVEMESPORT’s Market Madness podcast, outlined why Liverpool sense an opening. PSG are closing in on three attacking signings: Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco, Ferran Torres from Barcelona, and Mika Godts from Ajax.

That changes the temperature of negotiations. PSG, suddenly loaded with fresh attacking options, now have more incentive to cash in on Barcola. Liverpool, who have been deliberately patient, have been waiting to see if PSG’s eye-watering €170 million (£145m) valuation softens once those deals drop. The moment they anticipated is edging closer.

“Barcola Buy-In” at Anfield

Inside Anfield, there is growing confidence about the player’s stance.

Jacobs explained that Liverpool believe they have what he called “Barcola buy-in”. The winger is understood to be sold on the move and is prioritising Liverpool over other suitors. Arsenal are among the clubs who admire him and see him as a Vinicius Junior-style profile, but Liverpool feel they are in pole position.

From Liverpool’s perspective, the only way they lose this race is if someone blows them out of the water financially and they walk away on principle. That’s the line coming from club-adjacent sources: they have the player’s approval, now it’s about the numbers.

And the numbers are enormous.

A Price Tag That Bites

PSG’s initial valuation of around €170m is brutal, especially for a club that spent over £100m twice last summer on Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz. Even in a market where Morgan Rogers can move for £117m, that figure forces a pause.

Liverpool know Barcola is one of Europe’s most admired young attackers. He impressed at the World Cup this summer and delivered consistently for PSG last season. He’s been on Liverpool’s radar for some time, including last year, when they ultimately chose not to move.

This time, the equation feels different. The player is ready. PSG’s recruitment has shifted the dynamics. The need at Anfield is clearer.

The question is simple: can Liverpool drag that asking price down to something that still stings, but doesn’t scar?

The Salah Succession Plan

Barcola is viewed by many inside the game as a potential talismanic figure for his next club. At Liverpool, the projection is obvious: he could grow into the role Mohamed Salah vacated.

He’s not a like-for-like replacement, but he offers the kind of direct threat, one-v-one ability and attacking presence that can reshape a frontline. In a summer where Liverpool have been linked with a range of names, Barcola has increasingly stood out as the one who could change the entire mood around the window.

That wasn’t always the case. At the start of the summer, Yan Diomande sat at the top of Liverpool’s attacking wishlist. Diomande, though, ended up at Real Madrid after previously prioritising a move to PSG. Through that period, Barcola was already seen by some at Liverpool as the better fit for Iraola – more experienced, more likely to make an immediate impact.

Now, with Diomande gone and PSG stacking attackers, the logic has hardened. Barcola isn’t just an option. He’s the option.

A Window That Needs a Statement

Liverpool’s wider shortlist remains active. Ibrahim Mbaye, Ezri Konsa and Adam Wharton are all on the radar as the club look to reshape Iraola’s squad. But the Kop’s eyes are fixed on the frontline.

The Premier League season is just over a week away. The mood around the club has been lukewarm, the window so far more functional than thrilling. One deal changes that. One signing turns a flat summer into a statement.

That signing, Liverpool believe, is Bradley Barcola.

Now it comes down to how far PSG are willing to bend – and how far Liverpool are willing to stretch.
